Sarah Fisher Racing News Release:
DOLLAR GENERAL DRIVER SARAH FISHER COMPLETES FIRST TEST SINCE INDIANAPOLIS 500
Fisher returned to the racetrack testing over a two-day period for upcoming race at Kentucky Speedway
SPARTA, KY (August 1, 2008) – Sarah Fisher Racing (SFR) driver Sarah Fisher successfully completed a test spanning two days in preparation for the upcoming race on August 9, 2008, at Kentucky Speedway. Fisher premiered a new sponsor, Dollar General, and car design along with a new engineer for the team’s first test since being taken out of the 2008 Indianapolis 500 race.
“Wow does it feel good to be back in the car,” noted Fisher, who has spent the last two months training and soliciting sponsorships for her return to the racetrack. “When we rolled the Dollar General Honda off the truck, it was really a special moment for me because things have came around for us and we’re back on track. I’m here today as the racecar driver and was able to leave the owner hat at the shop. No paperwork, bills or payroll, just racecar driving. I feel like I’m on vacation, I guess racecar driving is like yoga for me, very relaxing. Overall, our test went extremely well. We brought a new engineer down with us and we have been working seamlessly together. The car feels good and we have a great baseline of consistency in the car. We dealt with a lot of heat today, which won’t be as much of the case race weekend with it being a night race. I can’t wait to get back in the car next weekend.”
Fisher hit the track late Thursday afternoon, July 21, 2008, in the No. 67 Dollar General Stores Honda Dallara for just under four hours of testing. She returned to the track Friday afternoon for a total of 300 flawless miles at one of her favorite tracks on the IndyCar Series circuit. Rightfully so, she owns the track qualifying record, set in 2002 when she made history be coming the first female in North American motorsports history to win the pole position for a major-league open-wheel race, and has a best finish of third at Kentucky Speedway in six previous starts.
Fisher will return to Kentucky Speedway on Friday, August 8, 2008, at 11:15pm for IndyCar Series practice for all drivers.
The Meijer Indy 300 presented by Pepsi and Edy’s Ice Cream is the 14th race on the 2008 IndyCar Series schedule. The final evening race of the season will be at Kentucky Speedway in Sparta, Kentucky and shown live under the lights on ESPN2 in DirecTV HD at 6:30 p.m. EST. Additional coverage will be available on the IMS Radio Network and XM Satellite Radio’s “IndyCar Racing,” with broadcast coverage summaries available at www.indycar.com http://www.indycar.com and www.sarahfisher.com.
TOM BROWN, Chief Engineer, SFR:
“I’m very pleased with our test here at Kentucky Speedway. We worked on consistent long runs with Sarah in the Dollar General car and continued to get quicker. We weren’t able to run in traffic but our main goal was really just to build consistency in her car. With it being my first time with the team, I also had to get to know everyone on the team. But great test overall.”
JOHN O’GARA, Race Strategist, SFR:
“This is one of the better tests that I’ve been to. I haven’t seen this consistent of a racecar in a long time. I really can’t complain about anything. Sarah was running a great line and was just consistent in her driving. We could do a bit of tuning up on the car, but we will be ready for next weekend. Everyone has worked so hard these last few months from bringing on board Dollar General, converting all the pit equipment and car over to yellow and getting the car ready to run. We are excited to be back on track.”
FISHER, driver of the No. 67 Dollar General Stores Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
