The plug has been pulled. Whether it is still pulled by Snortegi (Sept. 13) or not is another matter.
I have DISH so I am unaffected, but if I were a DTV customer, I wouldn't yank the plug on my subscription until after Japan. Actually, the bigger bite in the ass will be the college football games that VERSUS has paid to carry and people may tune into watch.
For what it's worth (insert snide comments here), Terry Angstadt of the IRL is completely confident the deal with get done before Snoretegi. He's also THIS close to a title sponsor and about to wrap up the Brazilian race.
Stay tuned. Er, untuned if you are a DTV person.

I'm trying...I am going to try not to get nervous til the week before Japan...arrrggghhh...I hate cable..but need my NFL season ticket since I am a displaced Bears fan!

P'dog, I hate to doubt the Great and Powerful Angstadt, but it seemed with the rhetoric that was being thrown about during the Chicagoland Broadcast by both DirecTV and Comcast that this situation is far from being solved. I mean, DirecTV even changed their message during the race to specifically call out Comcast. I'm sure it was done to combat the Versus commercial that DirecTV made a Bad Call, yada, yada, yada...I don't like Comcast and will not switch to them. I'll go Verizon Fios if I have to. DirecTV tells us you can still watch the IRL on ABC. Yeah 5 races, that's enough. Since I go to Indy, make it 4. I've been a DirecTV subscriber for 13 years but no one screws with my Indy Cars..Period. Sorry to be so worked up...We now return you to the kinder, gentler CurlingRacer...

P-Dog, I too am in the situation where I don't want to sacrifice my NFL Sunday Ticket. I was figuring that I would probably have to watch Motegi live on the computer via IndyCar.com anyway, but the college football issue is probably going to be the deal breaker.
Versus CFB lineup is pretty impressive, at least from the games they've teased.
On my blog last week, I posted an open letter to these two entities telling them to (to cite Larry the Cable Guy) "GitRDone!"

I thought Montegi was an okay race, but, the start time is awful. As for Direct TV, it's bad, and Terry says a lot of things that don't happen.

Open Wheel fans rag on N***** for only racing on "cookie-cutter" 1.5 ovals. But it seems that whenever the IRL ventures off one, so many are quick to immediately dismiss that track. (Snoretegi?)

Jesse: How am I being "quick to immediately dismiss the track"? After watching every Motegi race for the last five years or more, I'd hardly call that "quick to immediately dismiss." Can I find it boring after 10 years then? I don't judge a race based on the track. I judge the race based on the race. So as such I could care less what the track is. So-called cookie-cutter, 1 mile, 7/8s, egg-shaped, natural-terrain, street .. whatever. Dull is dull. I've found Motegi to be a sleep-inducing festival of fuel saving the last few years. If you love it, good for you.

P-Dog: Of course you're entitled to your opinion of Motegi, I agree that it hasn't produced the most exiting races. Also, for the record, I wasn't calling you out, personally, just commenting that it seems the majority of OW fans like the idea of diversity of schedule, but when it comes to individual races, prefer the 1.5 ovals. I count myself among those.
Maybe it is the events themselves on the schedule right now, but I wonder if it would be any different if it were a completely different card of non-oval events.

@Pressdog + Jesse,
Motegi's rep has been earned at this stage I think. Even when CART ran there, there was often a collective groan

The IRL should have rolled out a new car a few years ago. Long overdue. And Homestead, in my opinion, is also usually a yawner. So nobody should accuse me of automatically loving all ovals, 'cause I don't.
