INDY RACING LEAGUE ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENTS
TO ICONIC IZOD INDYCAR SERIES ADVISORY COMMITTEE
INDIANAPOLIS (April 13, 2010) - The Indy Racing League announced today appointments to its ICONIC (Innovative, Competitive, Open-Wheel, New, Industry-Relevant, Cost-Effective) IZOD IndyCar Series Advisory Committee.
Frequent pressdog.com reader Andy (no, not O'Gara) just flashed over a memo that said Randy Bernard will officially announce the members of the ICONIC IZOD IndyCar Series Advisory Committee sometime Tuesday (April 13) afternoon.
News Bulldog Andy dialed a call-in show and put the question right to Randy. Bernard would not confirm if Eddie "Goose" Gossage has accepted an invitation to be on the board as the track operator's representative.
ICONIC stands for Innovative, Competitive, Open-Wheel, New, Industry-Relevant, Cost-Effective. The job of the committee is to evaluate various chassis options for 2012 and make a recommendation to Bernard. The committee will be led by General William Looney, USAF (Retired).
Among the options on the table, allegedly, is a recommendation to wait until 2013 or later to introduce the car.
DeltaWing's wind tunnel tests show the car can get 'er done with its small-but-mighty approach, according to a news release issued by DWing yesterday.
The low-drag, triangular design of the car will let a "4-cylinder turbocharged engine with approximately 300 to 350 horsepower will meet the performance requirements of the IZOD IndyCar Series for the 2012 chassis, doing so with only half the fuel consumption of today’s car," DeltaWing engineers said.
The release also again makes the DeltaWing's main case of being more relevant to auto industry and the public as a whole with it's "do more with less" premise.
Lola said Wednesday while it's goal is to the 2010 IndyCar chassis maker and the company has been encouraged by fan response this far, they're not ruling out the possibility of being a sub-contractor contributing to a car designed by another company.
