pressdog.com has learned that ABC/ESPN television negotiating with Arni the Indy Insider of YouTube fame in an effort to boost ratings of its IndyCar broadcasts.
The move came after ABC/ESPN executives discovered that Arni's postings on YouTube actually drew a bigger audiences than the race broadcasts themselves.
"Arni's recap of the Japan race had 1,916 views as of May 9, which is about 921 more people than actually watched the race on TV," said one ABC insider who declined to be named. "If we're going to turn the Indy Car races into money makers, we need more of an Arni-level audience.
The mercurial Arni, who pops up on YouTube sporadically, could not be reached for comment. "Arni is in his quiet phase right now," said a source very close to Arni. "The girls in the cage at St. Pete -- that really took Arni's art to a new level. Frankly, after that piece, and the buzz it created, the price really went up for ABC/ESPN, or whoever wants a piece of Arni's time."
Rumors that Arni had a major motion picture deal in the works could not be confirmed.
As if to apply pressure, on Tuesday The Insider released his latest blockbuster Kansas recap.
