Sarah Fisher and her hub, Andy O'Gara, are apparently ripping it up on the go-kart track this season. According to the Always Vigilant Indy Star, Sarah and Andy teamed up to win a 100-lap kart race at a track next door to Chicagoland Speedway "this season."
In a December 29 Star article, sleuthed out by Christopher Estrada over at MVN.com, Andy and his dad (Sarah's father-in-law) Johnny O'Gara are now working for Sarah Fisher Racing where they are trying to slap together sponsorship for all of 2008. (Free idea: Change your team name to Flying Fish Racing. No charge.)
One thing to keep in mind: the formation of Sarah Fisher Racing doesn't necessarily mean that Sarah is starting her own team. (Although it very well could mean just that.) I believe Sarah Fisher Racing or something similar existed for several years as a legal entity to deal with with Sarah's personal sponsorship, income, taxes, yada yada.
Sarah Fisher Racing may exist as an entity to form a team and then graft itself to an existing team. As in "We got the cash and crew, can we join your team?" For most (OK, all) IRL teams, you'd have them at "we got the cash ..."
The memo that Johnny O, who was team boss over at Dreyer & Reinbold Racing, has fled DRR and joined up with Sarah's team, while not shocking, is news to me. And Johnny talking publicly about finding sponsorship for the
whole year, etc. is a good sign. We'll keep our eyes peeled for some
news in early 2008.
Read all about it at the Indy Star.
I still think she's going to end up with Foyt...
