Note: Racing PR Goddess Pat "P.Cap" Caporali is, in deed, the new Director of Media Relations for the Champ Car World Series. The intervention part is made up.
Friends and family of race public relations veteran Pat Caporali Thursday admitted that they were on their way to "stage an intervention" when they heard that they were too late.
"We were going to take her out, Britney Spears-like, but then we got the email that it was too late," said a close friend. "Pat had resigned from Target Chip Ganassi and agreed to become the director of media relations for the Champ Car World Series, effective Feb. 11."
The news caught P.Cap's friends off guard. "I was shocked," said one blogger. "An email saying 'Sun Freezes, Falls from Sky' would have been less shocking than 'Pat Caporali, Director of Media Relations, Champ Car World Series.' "
Caporali insisted she was of right mind and eager for the challenge. "I worked for (Jerry) Forsythe for four years. I worked for (Chippy) Ganassi for four years," Caporali said in a 100% real quote. "If I can handle that, I can handle anything."
"We didn't buy that 'ready for a new challenge' stuff at all,'" said a long-time friend. "But we ransacked Pat's residence and couldn't find any other evidence that she was a masochist. No thumb screws. No electric shock devices. No video tapes of NASCAR races. So the judge wouldn't go for a 'threat to herself and others' claim. I guess she got away. Champ Car stealing her away was the perfect crime."
Unofficial reports had Ganassi and driver Dan Wheldon "doing shots of Scotch and weeping softly" in reaction to the news.
Bloggers were also distressed at the loss of an IndyCar PR person who treated them like actual people. "Who's going to toss me a headset in the TCG pit now? At least Pat didn't turn the fire hose on us or report us to Security Chief Charles when we came around. It's a black day for bloggers, I tell ya. I'm going to have to come up out of the basement and talk to my mom about it."

Say 'dog,
Does Pat have to bring her own sponsor, like everyone else who works for CCWS?
