With the Champ Car World Series' Web site, ChampCar.ws, apparently headed for mothballs,Speedtv.com is apparently mounting a spirited challenge to pick up the Champ Car site's title of "least usable site on the Internet."
"Speedtv.com certainly is making a strong statement that they should inherit the crown of least usable," said one online observer who declined to be identified. "Having 21 little videos that try to load when you land on a splash page is a real innovation. If you're not on a fat T-1 line, might as well pack a lunch. There will be cars on the track at Indy before they all get loaded."
The iron is that the former Speedtv.com site was easy to navigate and locate info. Internet observers say the rust to add "robustness" and "create community" often leads to confusing, slow-loading, over designed html pigs that clog up the Internet.
While Speedtv.com was apparently designed for people who have a lot of time on their hands, experts agree that even that seems "way cool" compared to the train wreck of ChampCar.ws.
"I'm not saying having the top two thirds of your screen be a banner isn't innovative. It's great, unless you are trying to find something on the site," said several Internet experts. "Please, make those as big of a file size as you can. I enjoy watching them load so I can see the pretty colors when I just want to find the damn schedule."
Not only is champcar.ws bad, it's also frozen in pre-merger time. "The site still has race schedules, cheery news about testing, it's like the abandoned ruins of a former online civilization," said one of the few people who even feigns caring. "It's just standing there, untended. Will someone please slap up a big 'Go to IndyCar.com' sign on there. Have they no dignity?"
Thanks, P-dog...I thought it was me and was about to go out and buy a new computer....
