Andretti, Mutoh being Checked for Backmarkeritis

Sources within Andretti Green Racing report that two of their drivers are being checked for "early warning signs of backmarkeritis."

Marco Andretti and Hideki Mutoh are both undergoing "routine, precautionary evaluations" at an undisclosed location in Indianapolis.

"When Marco and Mutoh got zero air during the Infineon race broadcast, we took that as the first warning sign we might be slipping into backmarkerland," said a team insider who asked not to be named. "I mean, being in the zero-air club with Darrin Manning, Townsend Bell and Tomas Scheckter is a bit of a shock. That and the fact that Marco and Hideki's cars didn't have the magic rings kind of raised a few red flags."

Since the pdog was out of town and away from televisions during the weekend, I relied on the magic of DVR to preserve the moments for me. So I was not even slightly shocked to find that the start of the race looked remarkably like woman's golf. Although seeing Cristie Kerr drain 15-footer for the win the Safeway Classic in overtime is likely more excitement than we're gonna get at Snorenoma. Jussayin ..

There Goes the Neighborhood -- the N-Word is Coming to Iowa Speedway

Just got the memo: Nationbusch at the Iowa Speedway on Aug. 1, 2009. Gak. This has been the super, over-arching goal for Iowa Speedway every since Rusty the Super Deuce told the Crazy Cats in the earth movers to bogitty bogitty. From the news release:

It's official. NASCAR has selected Iowa Speedway as the site of a Nationwide Series race in 2009. Rusty Wallace, ABC/ESPN announcer and former NASCAR champion made the announcement at a morning news conference in Newton, Iowa.

Wallace, flanked by Iowa Speedway and Nationwide executives, ended months of speculation by announcing August 1, 2009, as the race date for the 250 lap Nationwide Series race to be held on the 7/8 mile oval track designed by Wallace. An exact time for the race has not been set.

"NASCAR's selection of Iowa Speedway as a site for a Nationwide race next year, in only our third full year of competitive racing, is an honor and a privilege," Wallace said, "and it's also the result of a lot of hard work by the staff here in Iowa – and our Nationwide partners who helped us secure a race here in Newton. It's a great day for Iowa Speedway, for Nationwide, for NASCAR, and especially, for racing fans throughout the country".

Officials See champcarworldseries.com as Ominous Sign

Racing officials revealed recently that the frozen-in-time Web site, champcarworldseries.com, may be a sign of a "separatist open-wheel movement."

"We expected the site to go dark after the mergification became final," said one IndyCar official who decline to be named. "But instead it's just frozen-in-time. It's like they think it's still early February. We fear that a group of separatists are keeping the site alive as an online base for a breakaway series some day."
