further adding to the "doh" from Heidfeld's comments earlier this season when he said that he was "this" close to moving over to Brawn this off-season

The absolute best outcome here would be if BMW and Volkswagen (who both sell a metric buttload of cars in the US market, where F1 steadfastly maintains they have no need to race) could agree on an engine formula, and go Indy racing.

p-dog...Wow! I didn't see this coming. Wonder if they pull out that this would open up a spot for one of the teams who didn't make the cut for 2010? Say Lola or March?

Good point. I hadn't thought about that. Not use to having more teams than spots.

First off all, Lola, Prodrive and Epsilon withdrew their applications after being snubbed by the FIA, it would surprise me if they were able to get things back on track.

That said, I think the team will continue like Brawn did. Maybe Sauber will buy his team back?

I'm thinking Heidfeld could only move to Brawn if either Button or Barrichello were leaving. I don't think either has indicated any willingness to leave F1 right now. Now, unwillingly would be another story, but there haven't been any rumors about that either, that I can recall.

Barrichello is always rumored to be leaving/kicked out/retiring.

I meant serious rumors, not the annual silly season stuff!
