Sources within IndyCar said Friday that Buddy Rice's return to the series was spurred in part by the appearance of Kimi Räikkönen on the American racing scene.
Sources who asked not to be identified said Rice was IndyCar's effort to fight for the audience segment attracted by the "flat-brimmed, too-large-looking cap" style favored by both drivers.
"We're going to fight NASCAR for every fan," said the insider, "so when we heard that Kimi was coming to the NASCAR truck series, we knew we had to have someone who could pull off the 'wearing-your-dad's-cap' look."
Panther Racing announced this week that Rice would attempt to qualify for the coming Indy 500. "This is us saying we're in this hat thing to win," the insider said.
Am I the only one who thinks wearing your hat that way makes you look like an idiot.

Thank goodness they are not wearing their hats backwards.

It looks pretty silly to me too, but then again, who am I?

The only person who could improve his appearance in one of these would be Donald Trump. Anything to protect women and small children from the horror of his aero-kit during the pace laps. First we have the fly over, then the comb over. Perhaps Ashley could be persuaded to donate the floppy hat she currently has covering last year's championship trophy to top off the Trump. If Trump cannot produce his birth certificate, can we uninvite him?

Wonder how Ho-Pin Tung wears his ballcaps? Can't wait to find out.
