Chevrolet Introduces 2013 NASCAR

LAS VEGAS – Chevrolet today opened a new chapter in its storied racing history, unveiling its eagerly anticipated 2013 NASCAR Chevrolet SS race car. Powered by the legendary small block V-8 engine, the rear-wheel drive performance sedan will be Chevrolet’s newest entry in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, beginning with the 2013 SpeedWeeks in Daytona, Fla. 

The new NASCAR race car closely resembles the all-new rear wheel drive V-8 Chevrolet SS performance sedan that will debut early next year.

Ideas for IndyCar

Since I started this blog in 2005 (with race notes from a fuel mileage race at Motegi, of all places) I've offered a plethora (if not a passel) of ideas for improving IndyCar. Clearly, some of them have sucked. But the quantity has been there.

Of course some of the response was "Shut your cake hole and be happy! Enjoy the racing! Negative Nellys like you are ruining it for everyone! It's perfect as is. Just give IndyCar your money and shut up." Some of the regular commenters here have joined in a thoughtful, best-intentions discussion of ideas, however, and I greatly greatly appreciate that.

Make it an IndyCar/Sprint Car Double Dip in Mid-June

Item 1: Weekend ticket packages for all races at Iowa Speedway went on sale yesterday. Go to www.iowaspeedway.com to score yours. Do it before the turkey tryptophan sets in.

Item 2: As is my custom, I ordered two in the upper deck for the IndyCar race at Iowa Speedway on June 23 last night. $70 a pop. I've been to every IndyCar race at Iowa Speedway, ever.

Item 3: HUGE ... The race at Iowa Speedway was moved from Saturday night to Sunday afternoon this year, which leads to HUGER ...

Item 4: Knoxville Raceway (www.knoxvilleraceway.com) has, on its tentative schedule, a regular Saturday night winged sprints program set for Saturday, June 23. Admission is only $15 for adults. Beer: $3 for a 12-oz. can. It's low-pricing LUNACY.

Item 5: Knoxville is a 40-ish minute drive straight south of Iowa Speedway.

That means this year you can come to Iowa on the weekend of June 22 and 23, go to Knoxville Raceway for a face full of angry 410 sprint cars on Saturday night and then get your IndyCar on at Iowa Speedway Sunday afternoon.

Ka-BOOM. Plan it. Do it. Do it now.

If you've never been to a sprint car race, your first 410 sprint car race will change your life for ever. The sound of RAGE. See ya there.
