Collete Davis Urges Students to Grab Life by the STEM

If Collete Davis' dreams come true, science for students in K-12 will involve fewer boring theoretical lectures filled with four-syllable words and more "Wow, that's cool."

In many ways Collete is leading by example. She skipped sixth grade entirely, graduated from high school two years early, and won a $40,000 National Science Foundation scholarship to attend renowned Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

At the same time she was embracing the sciences in school, Collete used her science and mechanical-oriented brain to launch a successful karting career.

So pretend you have a passion to do something. I my case it's easy to pretend, because I have a passion for writing. Ever since age 16 I've known that I want to write for a living. First it was as a newspaper reporter, then as a marketing writer.

Being a writer is not what I do, it's what I AM. It's virtually impossible for me to go two days without writing. I can't remember the last time I did. When people ask me what I do for a living, I love to say "I'm a writer." Lucky for me there are a fair number of jobs out there for writers -- and blogs like this where I can chase the verbal dragon -- so the odds are good I can continue to get my fix.

Now pretend your passion is for driving a race car. And everything I described about myself as a writer applied to you, only as a race car driver.

Shea Holbrook Rolls from P15 to P6 at Mid-Ohio

Woman of pressdog® Shea Holbrook worked it on the track at Mid-Ohio Sportscar Course this weekend. It was also the first weekend for her streaming in-car video from Livestream. After some gliches early on, the system worked well.

Cyndie Allemann -- Racing Diary

Woman of pressdog® Cyndie Allemann and her PR posse do a nice job kicking out "racing diaries" from time to time. They're PDF format and a lot of time and attention is put into each one. Even more critical ... they come regularly.

It's not a "we'll kick out a racing diary if we have time" deal. As a fan, I appreciate them making communicating with me a priority.

They're certainly promotional (from her PR peeps, of course) but the design is well done with big pictures of Cyndie and quotes, etc. It's a very impressive promomtional effort. I read all of every one I get ... can't say I do that for every racing press release I get.

In her most recent Super GT race in Sugo, Japan, Cyndie's teammate drove the first stint. A mechanical issue toward the end of his run ended their day before Cyndie could turn a lap.

Cyndie Allemann -- From Switzerland to Indy to Japan ... with (Racing) Love

IndyCar fans last saw Switzerland's Cyndie Allemann in 2008 during her one-and-done Firestone Indy Lights campaign driving for American Spirit Racing:

Cyndie would finish 14th in points with a season-best result of fourth at Mid-Ohio Sports Course.

“I really did like (Firestone Indy Lights),” Allemann said last week. “I love the mix of ovals and (road and street) race tracks. I had good moment like my P4 in Mid Ohio, but of course I was also disappointed in some of the oval races as I did not really have a fast car and could not fight in front. I really wanted to get to IndyCar, but I couldn't find enough sponsors to get in.”
